Parousa in every city: one line, from Athens to Rhodes

Parousa has no office in any particular city — she is a phone line, and a phone line answers the same way in Kolonaki and in Lindos. You keep your number and your carrier, set up call forwarding once, and from then on the receptionist answers in Greek around the clock, books appointments into your calendar and takes a message for anything that needs you. What changes from city to city is who calls, and when: medical practices and tutoring schools in one place, seasonal accommodation in another. Ten cities below, with what matters in each.

Athens

Medical practices, hair salons, garages and gyms, from the centre out to the northern and southern suburbs — and dozens of alternatives within a few metro stops, so a caller who gets no answer rarely leaves a message: they simply try the next one. Many Athenians book in the evening, from home, after the business has closed — the 9:30 pm call is answered as if it were 11 in the morning. The line stays the same: a 210/211 landline or a business mobile, with forwarding.

Thessaloniki

Practices around Tsimiski, salons in Kalamaria, garages in the western districts: calls arrive in clusters — before you open, at peak hours, and in the evening after you have closed. Patras

Greece’s third-largest market and a university town: along Riga Feraiou and Korinthou, salons, practices and studios work door to door, and the calls do not keep shop hours — a student looks for a gym or a barber in the evening, a parent calls the tutoring school after their own working day. Heraklion

Crete’s largest city, with one of the densest networks of medical and dental practices in the country around Dikaiosynis Avenue and 25is Avgoustou. In winter the calls are those of a big city; in summer the hotels and rooms to let join in, with bookings and changes from morning to midnight — often in English, which is coming as a separate line. Larissa

The centre of Thessaly and one of the largest medical markets in Greece: around the university hospital, practices and diagnostic centres take calls about appointments, results and referrals all day — and the same person who picks up the phone is the one greeting the patient at the door. On the pedestrian streets of the centre the competition is a few metres down the road, and many professionals cover the whole Thessalian plain. Prefix 2410, or a business mobile.

Volos

Two rhythms on one line: the waterfront and harbour market works all year round, while the guesthouses of Pelion have two peaks — the beaches in summer, the mountain in winter — with waves of bookings, changes and cancellations arriving while the owner is making up rooms or serving. In the industrial zone, garages and technical businesses answer with their hands full — when they can. Prefix 24210, or a business mobile.

Ioannina

A university and major hospitals together, which few cities of this size have: around them, medical and dental practices, laboratories, and a tutoring market fed by thousands of pupils and students — parents call in the evening, patients before the practice opens. And because Ioannina is the capital of all of Epirus, many professionals serve clients from Arta, Preveza and Igoumenitsa and are constantly on the road. Prefix 26510, or a business mobile.

Chania

The tourist heart of western Crete, with extreme seasonality: in season the phone rings during check-in, during service at the Venetian harbour and while a hire car is being handed over — and a visitor who gets no answer already has a list of alternatives open on their phone. In winter the staff thins out, but the line still has to be answered. From the Old Town and Halepa to Platanias and Akrotiri, on 28210 or your mobile.

Kalamata

On Aristomenous and in the historic centre, the person serving at the counter or the chair is the one who answers the phone. In summer, beach tourism thickens the bookings at restaurants and hotels from morning until late, and many of them are not in Greek; by November the teams shrink and every call counts for more. Rhodes

A season that runs from spring to late autumn and an international clientele: from the hotels of the town to the rooms in Faliraki and the tavernas of Lindos, bookings, changes and directions arrive during check-in and service — in English as often as in Greek. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be in a particular city?

No. Parousa is a phone service, not a physical office: she works in any town or village in Greece, as long as your line supports call forwarding. The ten cities on this page are examples of how the phone changes from place to place — if yours is not here, nothing is different.

Do I keep my local number?

Yes, always. You do not get a new number and you do not change carrier. On your landline — 210, 2310, 2610, 2810, whatever prefix your city has — or on your business mobile, you set forwarding for “when busy” or “when unanswered” with a short code from the handset. Your customers call the number they know from the sign, the website and the map; the only thing that changes is that someone now always answers.

Does she serve tourists in English?

Not yet. Today Parousa converses in Greek — that is the language she speaks naturally. English is coming as a separate English line that the caller chooses; for accommodation and restaurants in Chania, Rhodes, Heraklion or Kalamata it is the next step, and we will notify the waiting list as soon as it is ready.

What changes from city to city?

Nothing on the line — and quite a lot in who calls. The same receptionist, with the same calendar and the same confirmations, answers everywhere. What gets configured is your business: services, durations, opening hours, the answers to common questions. A practice in Larissa and a guesthouse on Pelion will give her entirely different instructions — and that is what makes the difference, not the postcode.
